The art of photography is more than knowing what f-stop to use, how to capture the light, and how to make changes on your computer to make the “perfect” picture. The essence of a great photograph, one that truly rocks your soul, is much deeper than that. It comes from within the photographer, from the heart and soul. This class is for those who want to improve their photographs by understanding and improving their “inner” skills.
In the tradition of the photographer Minor White, the class will draw from many techniques and philosophies: psychology, Zen, other contemplative and healing practices, and the simple truth of your own unique personal process. As you become more aware of your intention as a photographer and adept at working from your wise inner knowing, you’ll enhance the quality of both your photography and your life.
We’ll explore resonance: how to feel it, and what to do with it; seeing: how to see not only with your eyes, but with your intuition and your body; knowing: understanding your true intention in alignment with your being, not what others tell you; and how to shoot from a meditative space, putting you in the “flow” and leading you to the creation of those magical pictures that we mistakenly believe are from “chance.”
Choice points, overcoming blocks, embracing the unknown, the “click”: these are more tools that we’ll explore as you build your inner photography practice. The class will include didactic, experiential, discussions, outside applications, and sharing of photographs.
This is not your typical photography class, but a gateway to a new, expansive experience of photography. If you’ve found yourself seduced by photography, going out to shoot again and again, and craving the “fix” of capturing and expressing your inner and outer experience of the world…this class is for you. Prepare for a taste of the sacred…and through your camera discover yourself and the world.
